This version requires the genes99 license. Identification The get process version number for all platforms is 9.9 Intended Readers All Genesis users. Organization of this Manual Chapter One, Overview - introduces the subject of release notes. Chapter Two, Highlights - describes in brief the changes in this version. Chapter Three, Major Enhancements - Lists major changes and enhancements made to Genesis in this version. Chapter Four, New Critical Traces Detection DFM Action - This new DFM Action is designed to report lines or bottlenecks as critical or noncritical issues, and add an appropriate attribute (critical, non-critical) to the examined line/bottleneck. It requires you to operate an Xserver that supports 64-bit applications. Engineering Toolkit The new option Actions > Rename Rows was added to the Job Matrix. This option gives user the ability to rename layers according to rules specified in a new lyr_rename_rule hook file. The lyr_rename_rule hook contains a set of rules used for renaming layers based on a layer’s properties. For details, see “New Rename Rows option in Job Matrix” on page 9. Graphic Editor New Attributes Histogram Popup The Attribute Histogram Popup (AHP) is similar to the Feature Histogram Popup (FHP). The AHP displays a frequency distribution of all attributes in the selected layer. This distribution can be separated by feature type if desired. For details, see “Attributes Histogram Popup” on page 13. New DFM: Critical Traces Detection The new Critical Traces Detection DFM Action is designed to classify lines or bottlenecks as critical or non-critical, report them, and add an appropriate attribute (critical, non-critical) to the examined line/ bottleneck. For details, see “Critical Traces Detection DFM Action” on page 16. Enhancements to Advanced Teardrops Creation DFM New Teardrop mode - Arc by Radius Users can now specify the arc radius of the teardrop by selecting the new teardrop type Arc by Radius. The Arc by Radius teardrop will be tangent to both the pad and the line/arc. No sliver should be created between the trace and the teardrop. This new mode should enable improved, smoother 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 7 Chapter 2 Highlights connections between traces and pads. For details, see “New Teardrop mode - Arc by Radius” on page 35 Add Teardrops by Drill Type The new screen parameter Handle Drilled Pads will, if checked, enable users to add teardrops only to pads drilled by the drill type specified in the checkbox. For details, see “Add Teardrops by Drill Type” on page 30. Enhancement to Signal Layer Checks Report features with zero line width The new category Zero Width or Too Thin Features reports features whose width is zero (i.e. drawn with R0, S0 ...), or features that have a width smaller than the value specified by the new ERF variable v_max_width_for_too_thin_features. These zero-width features are too small to appear on the final plot. For details, see “Report features with zero line width” on page 28. Input/Output Formats Count Lines inside OPFX File Genesis now shows the number of lines in a file when outputting OPFX files. This feature was added to enable file verification by Orbotech machines. This information is passed to the RIP to validate that the file arrived intact. This functionality is supported by RIP version 3.37a and above. For details, see “Genesis shows number of lines when outputting OPFX file” on page 43. Avoid breaking text during DPF output Genesis DPF output now enables users to control whether or not to break the text. Not breaking the text enables text features to be preserved for later use in other machines. The default value is Yes, which breaks the text during output. For details, see “Avoid breaking text during DPF output” on page 42. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 8 Chapter 3 Chapter 3 Major Enhancements Major Enhancements Engineering Toolkit New Rename Rows option in Job Matrix The new option Actions > Rename Rows was added to the Job Matrix. This option gives user the ability to rename layers according to rules specified in a new lyr_rename_rule file. Note The option is implemented via the new line mode command matrix_auto_rename_rows. For details, see “matrix_auto_rename_rows” on page 45. Renaming Layer Names with the lyr_rename_rule File The lyr_rename_rule file contains a set of rules used for renaming layers based on the following layer properties: • Layer type • Drill type • Layer polarity • Side The lyr_rename_rule file is located in the following directory: $GENESIS_DIR/sys/hooks The main section of the file contains rules that define how to rename layers according to a layer’s individual parameters. File Format Configuration Each record has five fields. • Layer type (electric, signal, power_ground, solder_mask, …,) • Drill type (plated, nplated, via, laser, photo, pressfit, *) Like DTM • Layer polarity (positive, negative, *) or (+, -, *) or (p, n, *) • Side (top, bottom, inner, *) • Layer name 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 9 Chapter 3 Major Enhancements File Format Description • Layer renaming rules are case insensitive. • White space is used as the field separator. • A static separator -> appears before the layer name. • All fields are required. • Any line beginning with a # is a comment. Below are two examples of the layer renaming procedure. Example 1 silk_screen * * bottom -> ss-bottom layer type drill type layer polarity silk_screen * * side bottom separator new layer name -> ss-bottom silk_screen - layer type * - Drill type ( *, signifying this is a "don’t care" value) * - layer polarity ( *, signifying this is a "don’t care" value) bottom - side ss-bottom - renamed layer name Example 2 electric * - * -> neg$c layer type electric drill type layer polarity side * - * separator -> new layer name neg$c electric - layer type * - Drill type ( *, signifying this is a "don’t care" value) - - layer polarity ( -, signifying this is a layer with negative polarity) * - side neg$c - renamed layer name File Renaming Rules • Layer type electric will match signal, power_ground and mixed layers. • The drill type of the layer will only match something other than * if all layer features seen in the Drill Tool Manager are of the same type. • Layers are renamed according to the first rule they match. • Only board layers are renamed. • lyr_rename_rule is reread each time the operation is executed. This allows easy development and/or debugging. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 10 Chapter 3 Major Enhancements • The Side parameter affects renaming rules only for electric, Soldermask, Solderpaste, Silkscreen and Conductive Paste layers. • The following macros may be used in the layer name: $c Copper layer number (1,2,3…) $i Inner copper layer number ($i = $c - 1) $t Top layer of NC span $b Bottom layer of NC span $0c Copper layer number with leading zero added for numbers less than 10 $0i Inner layer number with leading zero added for numbers less than 10 $0t Top layer of NC span with leading zero added for numbers less than 10 $0b Bottom layer of NC span with leading zero added for numbers less than 10 The macro reads the layer number of the layer being renamed, and substitutes that number in place of the macro. For a layer renaming macro to work successfully, the layer being renamed must meet the criteria specified in the table below. (For example, a layer using the $c or $0c macro must be a copper layer, while a layer using the $t or $0t macro must be an NC layer.) If a layer to be renamed does not meet the required criteria, use of the macro during layer renaming operations will cause the rename operation to fail, and an error condition occurs. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 11 Chapter 3 Major Enhancements Layer macro $c, $0c $i, $0i $t, $0t $b, $0b Criteria for use Layer is a copper layer Layer is an inner copper layer Layer is an NC layer Layer is an NC layer 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 12 Graphic Editor Chapter 3 Major Enhancements Attributes Histogram Popup The Attribute Histogram Popup (AHP) is similar to the Feature Histogram Popup (FHP). The AHP displays a frequency distribution of all attributes in the selected layer. This distribution can be separated by feature type if desired. Other properties of the AHP: • Multiple AHPs can be opened in the same editor simultaneously. • If a Feature Type section has no features, the section does not appear. • Attributes in the AHP are sorted by name (and not by type). • Numeric attribute values are sorted numerically. Other attribute values are sorted alphabetically (i.e. ASCII ordering) even if they contain only numbers. • The type of feature attribute (Boolean, Floating, Integer, Option, String) does not appear in the AHP. • The AHP uses existing line mode commands (filter_area_start, filter_area_end, filter_atr_set etc.) for selection. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 13 File displays popup with two options Save saves file to user designated path Print sends file to default printer Edit displays two options: Chapter 3 Major Enhancements Goto line - Type the number of line you wish to find. Click the Goto button. The cursor will be located on the line. Search - Type attribute name. Click forward or back arrow. Attribute name will be selected in the list. You may type any part of name, the first match will be found. You may specify Case Sensitive to search by upper/ lower case. Select / Unselect Selects or unselects all features with attribute type that you mark. Highlight / Turn Off Highlights or Turns Off all features with attribute type that you mark. Update Refreshes list in histogram according to attributes selected. Note The Attribute Histogram Popup is controlled by new values added to the existing line mode commands feat_hist_open and feat_hist_close. For details, see “feat_hist_open” on page 48 and “feat_hist_close” on page 49. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 14 System Chapter 3 Major Enhancements Genesis can now run on Windows 7 64-bit Genesis can be run on Windows 7 64-bit. It requires you to operate an Xserver that supports 64-bit. The Xvision version supplied by Frontline does not support 64-bit. Frontline recommends the latest version of Xvision supplied by MKS Software (http://www.mkssoftware.com). If you are installing a Genesis license server, the required dongle should use the 9-pin case (small black case) that is connected to the serial port, since the current 32-bit Windows USB dongle driver does not work in Windows 64-bit. If your server doesn't have a serial port and you would like to use a USB port instead, you should use a USB-to-Serial port adaptor. Frontline recommends the ATEN UC232A USB-to-Serial Converter, Model: UC-232A. Genesis is a 32-bit application and cannot utilize the advanced features of a 64-bit operating system. Make sure to use the latest version of Pro-installer. Currently it is V4.1. Improved SIP Repair During Input The enhanced SIP (Self-Intersecting Polygons) repair algorithm removes all false alarms regarding SIPs during input. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 15 Chapter 4 Chapter 4 Critical Traces Detection DFM Action Critical Traces Detection DFM Action Introduction Prerequisites The new Critical Traces Detection DFM Action is designed to classify lines or bottlenecks as critical or non-critical issues, report them, and add an appropriate attribute (critical, non-critical) to the examined line/ bottleneck. In order for a line to be considered a critical trace, it must meet two criteria: 1. If the line is deleted, the net will be broken. 2. If the net is broken, there will be at least one pad or at least one drilled surface in each side of the "broken" net. If the net is broken, there will be at least one pad or at least one drilled surface in each side of the "broken" net.There are two primary motivations for creating this new DFM action. • Mark all non-critical traces to ensure that these traces are not broken during the production process. These non-critical traces must be verified manually, or by AOI, to ensure that no brokens appear on them, as these brokens will not be detected during ET testing. • Mark all non-critical traces to verify the status of a trace (critical, non-critical) when a broken is found during AOI inspection. If the trace containing the broken is not critical, usually it will not be repaired, where a critical trace must be repaired. The Critical Traces Detection DFM expects tear drop features (lines, arcs, pads, surfaces) to be properly marked with the .teardrop attribute, and tie lines to be marked with the .tie attribute. Add Teardrops by Drill Type The new screen parameter Handle Drilled Pads will, if checked, enable users to add teardrops only to pads drilled by the drill type specified in the checkbox. (Red is copper layer, Green is drill layer.) 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 31 Chapter 5 Enhanced Analysis/DFM Actions v_ignore_spacing_to_embedded_drill affects results in the following categories: • Spacing Violations • Full Teardrops • One Sided Teardrops • Shortened Teardrops • Missing Teardrops Do not add teardrops on closely-spaced pads If two pads linked by a trace are closer than the value specified in the ERF variable min_pad2pad_spacing, the Add Teardrops DFM will not add teardrops to either of them. When teardrops are added to pads that are too close to each other, the results can be unsightly. The Arc by Radius teardrop will be tangent to both the pad and the line/arc. No sliver should be created between the trace and the teardrop.This new mode should enable improved, smoother connections between traces and pads. Note The method of creating Arc by Radius-type teardrops is different from existing teardrop creation methods. The start point of Arc by Radius-type teardrops is the tangent point between the arc and the trace; existing ERF variables currently used to calculate the starting point are overridden when Arc by Radius-type teardrops are created. These ERF variables are specified below. td_ext_ratio td_ext_add ext_pad_ratio td_ext_min ext_drill_ratio td_ext_max The radius of an Arc by Radius teardrop is specified by the range between the GUI settings Opt. Radius to Min. Radius. The Advanced Teardrops DFM will try to find the largest radius possible within that range which permits the Arc by Radius teardrop to be tangent to both the trace and the pad. This feature is implemented by adding the options Copy Notes to the Copy Layer Features and Multi Layer Copy popups. Note Copying a layer can also copy layer attributes. To implement these options, new parameters were added to the copy_layer line mode command. For details, see “copy_layer” on page 47. Note Layer notes and layer attributes are also copied when using the Duplicate Row or Copy Row commands in the Job Matrix. 09991211 Release Notes Version 9.9 40 Chapter 6 Minor Enhancements New Oval Teardrop Type A new oval teardrop type was added to the Add Teardrop Popup. Oval teardrops must be wider than the line that enters the pad. The line mode command add_teardrop was changed to support the new oval teardrop type. For details, see “add_teardrop” on page 48. New line mode command to measure spacing between nets The new line mode command measure can be used in a script to measure spacing between nets when feature coordinates are known. The results of this command are similar to the Graphic Editor Measure options for measuring the space between different nets on the same layer. The new command can measure spacing on points, nets, contours, midpoints, and annular rings. For details, see “measure” on page 45. Bug fix to Pack to Center Vertically Pack to Center Vertically, part of the Step & Repeat Editor, creates free space at the bottom and top of a panel by shifting all selected steps towards the vertical panel center. If no steps are selected, the command moves all panel steps that are inside the active area. A limitation to this command is that if, after packing to the bottom, there is vertical spacing between two steps, the lower PCB will never be moved up. This limitation has now been fixed. Output Formats Doc. 0702 Avoid breaking text during DPF output Genesis DPF output now enables users to control whether or not to break the text.
