                      In  most  sampling  systems,  the  inherent  characteristics  of  thesample-hold  dictate  its  overall  performance.  However,  oneerror  source  that  sample-hold  users  do  have  under  theirdirect  control  is  the  external  charge  injection  from  the  digitalcontrol  signal.  This  is  known  as  charge  transfer  when  measuredin  coulombs  or  as  charge  offset  when  measured  involts.  It  is  often  also  known  as  pedestal  because  of  itsmanifestation  as  a  step  change  to  the  output.  The  culprit  isgenerally  the  parasitic  capacitance  between  the  digital  controlpin  and  some  sensitive  node(s)  of  the  circuit.
