The  X4163,  X4165  combines  four  popular  functions,Power-on  Reset  Control,  Watchdog  Timer,  Supply  VoltageSupervision,  and  Serial  EEPROM  Memory  in  onepackage.  This  combination  lowers  system  cost,reduces  board  space  requirements,  and  increases  reliability.Applying  power  to  the  device  activates  the  power  onreset  circuit  which  holds  RESET/RESET  active  for  aperiod  of  time.  This  allows  the  power  supply  and  oscillatorto  stabilize  before  the  processor  can  execute  code.The  Watchdog  Timer  provides  an  independent  protectionmechanism  for  microcontrollers.  When  the  microcontrollerfails  to  restart  a  timer  within  a  selectabletime  out  interval,  the  device  activates  theRESET/RESET  signal.  The  user  selects  the  intervalfrom  three  preset  values.  Once  selected,  the  intervaldoes  not  change,  even  after  cycling  the  power.The  device’s  low  VCC  detection  circuitry  protects  theuser’s  system  from  low  voltage  conditions,  resetting  thesystem  when  VCC  falls  below  the  set  minimum  VCC  trippoint.  RESET/RESET  is  asserted  until  VCC  returns  toproper  operating  level  and  stabilizes.  Four  industrystandard  VTRIP  thresholds  are  available,  however,  Intersil’sunique  circuits  allow  the  threshold  to  be  reprogrammedto  meet  custom  requirements  or  to  fine-tunethe  threshold  for  applications  requiring  higher  precision.
