The MAX34440 is a complex system monitor that canmanage up to six power supplies. The power-supplymanager monitors the power-supply output voltage andconstantly checks for user-programmable overvoltageand undervoltage thresholds. It can also margin thepower-supply output voltage up or down to a userprogrammablelevel. The margining is performed in aclosed-loop arrangement whereby the device automaticallyadjusts a pulse-width-modulated (PWM) output andthen measures the resultant output voltage. The powersupplymanager can also sequence the supplies in anyorder at both power-up and power-down. With the additionof an external current-sense amplifier, the devicecan also monitor currents.
