The L4987 is a very low drop regulator availablein PPAK. The very low drop-voltage (0.5V Max at200 mA) and the very low quiescent current makeit particularly suitable for low noise, low powerapplications, and in battey powered systems. Theinput dump protection up to 40V makes it ideal forautomotive applications. a shutdown LogicControl function is available (pin2, TTLcompatible). This means that when the device isused as a local regulator, it is possible to put apart of the boad in standby, decreasing the totalpower consumption. The regulator employs anoutput pin (open collector) providing a logic signalwhen the pass transistor is in saturation at lowinput voltage, this signal can be used to preventthe pop-up phenomenon in the car radio. Inbattery powered systems (the cellular phone,notebook) it is possible to use the flag to monitorthe battery charge status through the dropout ofthe regulator.
