PCK2001 (CKBF) reduced EMI techniques

This  application  note  describes  the  background,  technique  andresults  of  EMI  measurements  on  the  PCK2001  (CKBF),  showingreduced  EMI  emissions  over  standard  design  techniques.  Throughthe  use  of  circuit  design,  the  high  frequency  EMI  emissions  from  theCKBF  were  reduced  from  a  standard  design  approach.  Thesereduced  emissions  should  help  a  board/systems  manufacturer  passFCC  and  CISPR  EMI  requirements.BACKGROUND  OF  EMI,  FCC  AND  CISPRSTANDARDSEMI,  Electro-Magnetic  Interference,  is  any  unwantedelectromagnetic  signal  which  may  degrade  the  performance  of  anelectronic  device.  It  is  generally  thought  of  as  one  device  creatingelectromagnetic  radiation  that  interferes  with  the  operation  orperformance  of  another  device.  PCs  and  PC  motherboard  designshave  to  meet  standards  set  by  regulatory  agencies.  Two  standardsare,  FCC  (Federal  Communications  Commission)  regulations  part15B,  and  International  Electrotechnical  Commission’s  InternationalSpecial  Committee  on  Radio  Interference  (CISPR)  22B.  Theseregulations  specify  limits:
