8-Bit, Programmable 2- to 3-Phase Synchronous Buck ControllerThe ADP3293 is a highly efficient, multi−phase, synchronous buckswitching regulator controller optimized for converting a 12 V mainsupply voltage into the core supply voltage of high performance Intelprocessors. It uses an internal 8−bit DAC to read a voltageidentification (VID) code directly from the processor, to set the outputvoltage between 0.5 V and 1.6 V.This device uses a multi−mode control architecture to drive thelogic−level PWM outputs. The switching frequency can beprogrammed according to VR size and efficiency. The chip canprovide 2− or 3−phase operation, allowing for the construction of up tofour complementary buck switching stages.The ADP3293 also includes programmable no load offset and loadline slope setting function that adjusts the output voltage as a functionof the load current, optimally positioning it for a system transient. TheADP3293 also provides accurate and reliable short−circuit protection,adjustable current limit, and a delayed power−good output thataccommodates on−the−fly output voltage changes requested by theCPU.
