AM457  is  a  high-precision  integrated  amplifier  whichhas  been  developed  to  condition  signals  from  smalldifferential  input  voltages  within  a  range  of  a  fewmillivolts  (±5  to  ±100mV  FS).  The  chief  componentof  the  IC  is  a  highly  accurate,  low-noise  amplifiercircuit  (AMP).  An  additional  integrated  operationalamplifier  (OP)  can  be  used  to  supply  a  sensingelement  with  current  or  record  temperature  for  sensorbridges  powered  by  voltage,  for  example.  The  entiresystem  (sensing  element  plus  amplifier)  is  monitoredby  the  integrated  diagnostic  unit  which  logs  anysensing  element  errors  or  defects,  systemundervoltage,  AMP  overloads  and  excessivetemperature.  The  various  function  groups  are  notmutually  dependent  on  one  another;  the  AMP  can  beoperated  independently  of  the  OP,  for  example.  Thefunctionality  of  both  component  groups  (AMP  andOP)  is  autonomous  with  regard  to  the  diagnostic  unit.AM457  is  a  combination  of  high-impedance  precisionamplifier,  additional  OP  and  extensive  diagnostic  unit,enabling  a  self-monitoring  sensor  system  to  beassembled  using  very  few  components.
