A simplepre-loadable shift register could perform thebasic conversion. However, for the function tobe complete, additional circuitry to performhandshaking or control of the process isrequired. The entire function can be made tofit into a low cost Programmable LogicDevice (PLD), including control circuitrytailored to meet specific applicationrequirements.
